Exercise

Exercise

When working with chronic health problems we often come to a point where the changes that are possible are not being realized due to muscle weakness or other musculoskeletal problems. For example, if a person has been having “tension headaches” for years because of a muscle imbalance in their neck, we can easily get the muscles that are too tight to relax, but if the muscles that are too weak are not strengthened the problem will not improve. The body will not be able to restore balance to the head until balance within the neck muscles is achieved. If we reach that point in our work I will likely recommend some form of simple exercise.

I primarily suggest exercises and stretches from yoga and Polarity Therapy. I have also found the specifically targeted exercises from the Egoscue method to be remarkably effective in balancing the entire musculoskeletal system. I may recommend a book that helps the individual develop a workable exercise program for themselves, I may suggest a DVD or CD to follow or I may refer a client to a practitioner who can develop a personalized strengthening program for them.

I especially recommend www.gymgiovino.com.
